Arnold’s Cove, Newfoundland – Workers at Icewater Seafood process cod fish in Arnold’s Cove, Newfoundland Canada in advance of anticipated trade tariffs from the USA expected April 2, 2025.
Icewater, like many seafood processors in Newfoundland and Atlantic Canada, sell a majority of their product into the US market and will be seriously effected by high tariffs in the United States. An estimated 80 percent of all fish caught and processed in Newfoundland and Labrador goes to the USA.
The US market is heavily focused on price point so addition costs may kill that market for Newfoundland fishermen and processors.
Like many industries in Canada the Newfoundland fishery is scrambling to increase sales or find new market across Canada, UK, Europe and Asia. Photo by Greg Locke © 2025 www.greglocke.com
