ST. JOHN’S, NL – A statue of early Newfoundland feminist and suffragette Armine Gosling by sculpture Sheila Coultas of the Newfoundland Bronze Foundry has been unveiled in Bannerman Park in St John’s just steps from her home on Rennies Mill Road.

Armine Nutting Gosling was a Canadian-born educator, suffragist, and social reformer who played a leading role in the women’s rights movement in Newfoundland. After serving as principal of the Church of England Girls’ School in St. John’s, she became deeply involved in public life through her advocacy for child and animal welfare, women’s education, and political equality.

Her work lead to the first election where women were eligible to vote in 1925.
